Well-known reality TV personality Phyna has expressed her wish to become a citizen of South Africa and her discontent with her fellow Nigerians on social media.
Phyna said on her social media page that she wants to be recognised as a South African, and she invited any nation that would like to claim her as a citizen to do so.
The reality TV actress did not hold back while expressing her wish, attributing it to her countrymen’s seeming lack of love and support.
Phyna responded to the criticism she alleges she encounters from Nigerians by saying she was only giving back the positive energy she feels from her people.
A flood of responses has followed her audacious declaration; some have expressed astonishment and regret at her choice, while others have backed her right to voice her feelings.
The timing of Phyna’s comments is significant since it comes right after another reality TV star Ike Onyema stated that South Africans had to accept Pere Egbi or Phyna in return for Grammy winner Tyla going to Nigeria.
GISTLOVER reported that Ike Onyema, a former Big Brother Naija Pepper Dem and All Stars contestant, gives his colleagues, Pere Egbi and Phyna, to South Africans.
This happened after an intense match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Bafana Bafana of South Africa during the AFCON 2023 semi-final match.
Following their defeat in the 2023 AFCON, Mercy Eke’s ex-partner resorted to the microblogging platform X to plead with South Africans.
In exchange for South Africans considering to give Nigerians their rising star singer, Tyla, he encouraged them to offer Pere Egbi, with the possibility of adding Phyna as a bonus.
“Give us Tyla and take Pere Egbi. We can add Phyna,” he wrote.
