A 42-year-old woman, a credit controller from Felixstowe, Suffolk, has officially married herself.
The extravagant wedding ceremony, took place at Harvest House.
According to BBC News, Sarah Wilkinson, who had saved for her dream wedding for over 20 years, embarked on this unconventional journey to celebrate herself as her hopes of finding Mr. Right dimmed.
While she is well aware that this unique celebration is not an official marriage, she felt that it was time to invest in her own happiness and not miss out on a momentous event she had been planning for years.
Speaking about her decision.
“I think you get to the point where you think ‘I might not have this with a partner by my side, but why should I miss out?” Sarah said.
With a dedicated savings plan spanning two decades, Sarah was able to splurge £10,000 (approximately 9.4 million) on the event, a sum she had diligently set aside each month from her earnings, supplemented by winnings from bingo games.
The bride, surrounded by 40 of her closest family and friends, marked the occasion in style, with an additional 40 attendees joining the evening party at a local tennis club.
“The money was reserved for my wedding – it was a case of it’s there, and why not use it for something I want to do,” Sarah added.
The event saw Sarah in a traditional white sequined gown, and she cut a tiered cake topped with a figurine of a bride kissing a frog.
As part of the celebration, Sarah composed 14 vows to herself, with the first pledge being a promise never to relinquish control of the TV remote.
Sarah’s idea to marry herself took shape when she turned 40 during the lockdown, a moment that spurred her to buy herself a diamond engagement ring and celebrate her own existence.
