Sell By. Amp Up Indie-Grunge Aficionados With ‘Social Smoker’ | News
Sporting big drums, moody guitars and an in-your-face punchy chorus Guildford band sell by. make a strong introduction with debut single, ‘Social Smoker’. Dazed distortion carries the track forward, offering its listeners escape from the mundane and dreary. Ambitious and anthemic, the lyrics dig into the personal, reaching for answers that unite those who feel like outsiders.

The three members explain: “We started writing for sell by, at a particularly turbulent time of our lives, myself (James) and drummer Jamie had recently left a band that was a massive part in both of our lives. This is why we think Social Smoker has a sort of cathartic energy about it.”

Crafted for the stage, the track lends itself to a celebratory moment amongst crowds as the band gear up for future shows.

“The song is written about (and for) the sort of people that come to life in the smoking area of a club. The people that don’t fit in, but really try to. We really wanted to make an angsty record and tried to encapsulate as many 2000’s post grunge, pop punk influences as possible. At the time of writing / recording we were listening to a lot of Green Day, Biffy Clyro and early Foo Fighters.”
