Saw X has gotten over 86% tomatometer and 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes

“He was like, ‘Actually I’m just working on a movie… You can come in and see it if you want?’”

Naturally, there’s a lot of screaming in the sequence.

“There was a knock at the door. We have the doorbell [camera] video of the police walking up, [Forn answering the door] and the police saying, ‘The neighbors [have been] calling and saying someone’s being tortured to death in here,'” Greutert recalled. “And he was like, ‘Actually, I’m just working on a movie. You can come in and see it if you want?’ The cops started laughing!”

Saw X editor Steve Forn just might be working with headphones going forward after the police were dispatched to his North Hollywood office over some disturbing noises.

In an interview with NME published Friday, director Kevin Greutert revealed that the cops showed up at Forn’s door while he was working on the film after neighbors reported the sound of screaming coming from his office. Forn was finishing up the sound design for a particularly gruesome scene depicting the “eye vacuum trap,” in which a character must escape from Jigsaw or los… 

“There was a knock at the door,” Greutert said. “We have the doorbell [camera] video of the police walking up, [Forn answering the door] and the police saying, ‘The neighbors [have been] calling and saying someone’s being tortured to death in here.’ And he was like, ‘Actually, I’m just working on a movie…You can come in and see it if you want?’”

“The cops started laughing!” the director continued. “They said, ‘We want to but, you know, you’re all right.’ It must have been a pretty realistic performance! It’s a pretty funny story…Plus Steve is such a mild mannered guy. I can only imagine the look on his face when he realized what was happening!”

Greutert is a “Saw” franchise veteran having served as editor on the original movie. He went on to direct three “Saw” movies, the latest of which has been earning the best reviews of the franchise. The film currently boats a healthy 84% Rotten Tomatoes score from 62 reviews.

Enter Saw X, the tenth installment in the franchise that stands as a prequel set between the first two films. Kevin Greutert, who previously helmed Saw VI and The Final Chapter, returns as both director and editor. It’s worth noting that Greutert has served as the editor on every single entry in the franchise, having a heavy hand in pioneering the visual style of Saw from the very beginning. He’s joined by writers Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger, who wrote Jigsaw and Spiral. The creative minds behind Saw X have had their knees deep in the franchise for years, seeing its many highs and lows. Perhaps this is why the movie, in many ways, feels like a direct response to what fans have been longing for. Gone are overtly complicated plot twists that require homework. This is all about John Kramer, and his latest traps are as twisted as ever.
