NJ/NY Gotham FC acquire defender Victoria Pickett from the Kansas City Current

Gotham FC have acquired defender Victoria Pickett from the Kansas City Current.

In exchange for the 2021 Rookie of the Year finalist, Gotham will send Kansas City a first-round pick in the 2023 NWSL draft and $200,000 in allocation money.

The pick will be OL Reign’s natural first-round pick that was acquired by Gotham FC in a previous trade, or Gotham FC’s second highest first-round draft pick.

“I’m ecstatic to welcome Victoria to Gotham FC,” general manager Yael Averbuch West said. “She’s a highly skilled player who adds the perfect blend of quality, experience, and youth to our midfield. With her passion for the game and drive to succeed, she’ll make an excellent addition to our roster on and off the field.”

Pickett managed one goal and one assist in 19 games for the Current during her debut season and played a big part in the team’s 2022 campaign. Her arrival to Gotham FC comes at a desperate time for the NJ/NY club as they sit in last place of the NWSL table with only 12 points in 15 games.

The team has won only four games so far this season, to hold a record of 4W-11L-0D. They return to action on Sunday as they host Angel City at Red Bull Arena.
