A 24-year-old Nigerian man has reportedly stabbed his 22-year-old roommate to death after a heated argument in Portugal.
The altercation, which reportedly occurred on Friday night, April 19, 2024, escalated into a violent attack, leaving one dead and the other in custody.
Both the victim and the alleged perpetrator resided in a local accommodation space situated on Rua do Bonfim, Porto, according to reports from Portuguese newspaper, Jornal de Noticias (JN).
The disagreement between the two Nigerians culminated in the older man repeatedly striking his partner with a sharp object.
The victim sustained severe injuries as a result of the assault. Following the altercation, the suspected assailant purportedly remained in the room with the victim’s body for several hours before attempting to leave the premises.
However, his departure was thwarted when authorities intervened, leading to his subsequent arrest by the PSP (Polícia de Segurança Pública).
Upon discovering the distressing scene, Ângela Bragança, an employee of the nearby “Angel Coffee” establishment, recounted her shock upon arriving at work on Saturday morning.
She described encountering the victim’s body in the accommodation, along with signs of a disturbance, including a displaced rubbish bin.
“I came by bus, half past seven, I crossed the zebra crossing and saw the body inside the accommodation, already closed, on the floor. It was the only thing I saw. What caught my attention was the rubbish bin being out of place,” Ângela Bragança said.
“I know that yesterday I helped two young men who entered the hostel, but I don’t know if they are the ones. As a rule, local accommodation customers come here because this is a cafe that opens early and closes late, but there has never been anything like this,” she added.
