Running back James White was perfect for the New England Patriots.

He might not have been the best player during his heyday, but he always found a way to contribute to his team’s cause.

That’s why he will forever be immortalized in the signature play that earned the Patriots another Super Bowl victory.

That sweep right play completed a 25-point comeback for the Patriots to defeat the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI.

That play made him the only player to score a walk-off touchdown in a Super Bowl overtime.

He also scored 20 of New England’s points to ignite the turnaround.

It’s in those moments that White shined the most and that’s why he holds the Super Bowl record for points and receptions.

Now that he has announced his retirement, Falcons fans will be haunted by his name again.

But kidding aside, his impact on the Patriots organization was so profound that his teammates congratulated him on his retirement.

The tweet above shows the messages from quarterback Tom Brady, wide receiver Julian Edelman, linebacker Dont’a Hightower, and center David Andrews.

White’s Impact With The Patriots

If not for him, there’s one less Super Bowl in the credentials of these players.

In the end, there’s nothing more that White could ask for.

He won three Super Bowls with New England and is a part of the franchise’s All-Dynasty Team.

White also has one of the most reliable hands in football, especially during crunch time.

In his announcement tweet, White couldn’t stress enough the impact that Foxboro had on him.

It’s where he became a winner both on the field and in life when he had children.

Therefore, his legacy will never be forgotten by Patriots fans.

In fact, they have entrenched him into a new Mount Rushmore of the team’s best receiving backs.
