At the very start of free agency, a bomb was dropped on the NBA when it was revealed that Kevin Durant was demanding a trade from the Brooklyn Nets.

It was an earth-shattering moment because Durant is one of the biggest names in the game and his leaving the Nets would shake up the entire league.

When the news leaked, everyone expected some incredible and massive deal to come together in record time.

All these weeks later, not a single thing has changed.

In fact, insiders say that things are at a complete standstill with training camp just a few weeks away.

Brian Windhorst of ESPN says that the situation surrounding Kevin Durant and the Nets “hasn’t changed at all.”

There is no urgency in trade talks, according to Windhorst.

So what is the next step?

Durant’s Deal

There is no doubt that multiple teams across the NBA want Durant and would be willing to put up a lot to get him.

But there is also no doubt that the Nets aren’t interested in any package that doesn’t feel completely perfect to them.

They don’t just want one single All-Star in exchange for KD: they want perhaps a few as well as future first-round draft picks.

If they don’t get that then the Nets are more than comfortable doing nothing and forcing Durant to play in Brooklyn next year.

Durant has really run out of options, he has made his demands clear – repeatedly.

If he really wants to push the issue, he could choose to sit out of training camp but that brings a whole lot of bad press and also takes him out of the game he loves so much.

We don’t know what will happen next but we do know that the next steps will be big.
