Rafael Devers Has Etched His Name In Red Sox History

After a wonderful season a year ago, the Boston Red Sox are now slipping in the standings and their chances for making another deep run into the postseason are dwindling as well.

But that doesn’t mean that they can’t play a little spoiler down the stretch.

That’s what they did this weekend, taking two out of three from the reeling New York Yankees.

Boston won 3-0 last night, thanks in large part to Rafael Devers, who blasted home run No. 25 on the season.

With that home run, Devers made a little Red Sox history, tying Tony Conigliaro, Jim Rice, Nomar Garciaparra, and Ted Williams for the most 25-homer seasons through their age-25 season.

Devers Makes Red Sox History

Devers put the bat right on the ball and sent one way out of Fenway last night.

The home run made a little history and was more than enough to help Michael Wacha carve his way through the Yankees lineup.

Devers also joined a list of Red Sox greats.

Anytime you can put yourself in the same company as guys like Nomar Garciaparra, Ted Williams, Jim Rice, and Tony Conigliaro, you have to feel good about things.

Devers has carried the Red Sox through this trying season.

In addition to his 25 home runs, he is hitting for a team-high .305 average and has driven in 62, while posting a stellar OPS of .938.

Devers led the way and helped keep Boston alive in the race for the final American League Wild Card spot.

Though it’s a long-shot they’ll get in, they’re only 4.5 games back of the Tampa Bay Rays for that spot.

If Devers continues hitting the way he’s been hitting, then the Red Sox have a chance to make some noise.
