Unknown numbers of individuals are believed to have died and numerous more were trapped in a two-storey building that collapsed.
According to reports, the structure is situated on the constantly busy Lagos Street in the Garki village neighborhood of the Garki II region of Abuja.
After the tragedy that happened on Wednesday night, August 23, in Abuja., Tanko Dabo, an eyewitness, reported that the ground floor of the structure was crammed with shops while the upper floors housed several flats.
He claimed that during the intense downpour, which began at about 11:50 p.m. on Wednesday, the building collapsed.
“There was wailing all over the place after the building collapsed. Dozens of people are either dead or trapped as the building was fully occupied.
It was a scene of helplessness with people screaming and running helter-skelter, while the heavy rain continued,” he said.
