The chic is back in the week.
After years of New York Fashion Weeks that have been more glum than glam — even before it was walloped by the pandemic — this season’s event seems to be showing signs of A-List life.
Fashion’s biggest week technically starts on Friday, but stars like Janet Jackson and Julia Fox are already getting a head start.
Jackson kicked off NYFW at Jazz at Lincoln Center on Tuesday, where Harlem’s Fashion Row and LVHM honored her with its “Icon of the Year” award.
Issa Rae, Sergio Hudson, and Robin Givhan were honored earlier in evening at Harlem Fashion Row’s 15th Anniversary Fashion Show and Style Awards at General Grant National Memorial in Harlem.
Unlike her fellow nominees, Jackson received her award fashionably late at the after-party because, “I literally just flew in from London,” she told the crowd.
Celebrity stylist Wouri Vice dressed Jackson in Off-White FW22, the late Virgil Abloh’s last collection for the brand. Miss Jackson was later spotted partying with Amanda Lepore and Susanne Bartsch at the latter’s weekly “On Top” party at Le Bain.
Meanwhile, downtown indie fashionista Julia Fox partied at David Rabin’s American Bar, where her branding manager Kendall Werts celebrated the five-year anniversary of his talent agency, The Jeffries.
Werts’ client Evan Mock spun tunes at the event, and George Wayne and Aoki Lee Simmons — the daughter of Kimora Lee and Russell Simmons — were also on the scene.
Werts told us the party “felt like Studio 54.”
And the parties are still just beginning.
On Thursday, Fotografiska is hosting two parties. Gigi Hadid and Diane von Furstenburg will host UK Vogue editor Edward Enninful’s book launch dinner and after-party at the venue’s Veronika restaurant.
Photographer David La Chapelle will also host friends including Naomi Campbell, Heidi Klum, Doja Cat, Paris Hilton and Daphne Guinness for his “make Believe” exhibit. The party will take place throughout the museum and Chapel Bar, we’re told.
And, of course, party mayor Eric Adams has to get in on all of the fashion action. We hear he’ll host a CFDA party with Anna Wintour at Gracie Mansion on Thursday. Wintour is also expected at a dinner at Indochine thrown by Dior’s Kim Jones and Marc Jacobs on Friday night. We hear Saint Laurent and J. Crew have also bought out the restaurant for events.
Fashion icon Grace Jones will also be making a party appearance this week. The super star will celebrate a new Boy Smells candle named after her at Public Hotel.
Bose is also holding an event featuring a musical performance by the Strokes and designer Heron Preston.
The Daily will hold its annual Fashion Media Awards, which always brings out both media and star power. Busy Philipps is hosting this year’s event. The fashion publication will also host a bash at the Hard Rock Hotel.
Harpers Bazaar will hold its glamorous Icons event, switching venues this year from the Plaza to Bloomingdale’s. Jack Harlow will perform.
