Germany keep World Cup hope alive after 1-1 draw with Spain

Germany is back on track in the fight for a spot in the Round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup, following a 1-1 draw with Spain last night.

Spain tried to control the pace of the game with ball possession but wasn’t able to create many opportunities, while Germany was able to threaten sporadically with breakaways and set pieces.

Spain was close to an impressive win and would have also gotten a spot in the Round of 16 following a goal from Alvaro Morata in the 62nd-minute goal, but Niclas Fullkrug grabbed a vital 83rd-minute equalizer for the Germans.

The result means Spain needs a point against Japan to ensure their progress into the next round, while Germany will have to beat Costa Rica and hope that Japan don’t beat Spain in the last group game.

Costa Rica’s surprise win over Japan earlier eased some pressure on Germany after their shock loss to the Asian side.
