The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has selected Victor Osimhen for a random drug test following his outstanding performance against Cameroon.
The Super Eagle of Nigeria beat Cameroon in the Round of 16 match at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire on Saturday, January 27.
Osimhen was the driving force behind the Super Eagles’ 2-0 win over Cameroon in the round of 16.
According to a report from Vanguard, Osimhen’s tireless display and energetic speed have drawn the notice of CAF, resulting in his being picked for a random test.
Usually, players are picked by drawing of a lot for all the players in a matchday squad. However, a player can also be picked randomly if they notice any unusual behavior.
DW Africa wrote on their page,
“Nigerian football star Victor Osimhen had to undergo a random drug test after his tireless performance against Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions. The Super Eagles forward was instrumental in both goals that gave Nigeria a much-needed win to advance to the quarter-finals.
“His tireless display has attracted the attention of Confederation of African Football (CAF) officials. He was also tested when Nigeria played Ivory Coast. Both tests turned out negative. CAF officials can randomly select a player for testing if they notice any unusual behavior. The current CAF Player of the Year is expected to lead the line for the three-time champions when they face Angola in the quarter-finals this week.”
