Jose Peseiro hopes Super Eagles’ goalie Nwabali returns ahead of Angola clash

Coach Jose Peseiro is keeping fingers crossed for the return of goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali as Nigeria prepares to take on Angola.

The Super Eagles will face the Black Antelopes in the quarter-finals of the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Friday, February 2.

Nwabali was stretched out during the Round of 16 encounter against Cameroon after a collision with Cameroon winger. He was replaced by the known Super Eagles number one Francis Uzoho.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding 27-year-old injury, Peseiro remains optimistic about his return.

“We will assess the state of Nwabali’s injury in the next 24 to 48 hours. It’s difficult to assess his condition at the moment,” Completesports reported.

Expressing his desire to have Nwabali back for the crucial match against Angola, Peseiro added, “I want him to play. And the players want him to play.

“We have 25 players here, there are other players who can do the job. If he can’t play, we have a good replacement.”

Nwabali has been in fine form at the tournament, conceding just once in four games, making his potential absence a concern for the Super Eagles.
