Nollywood actors have reacted to a video that has surfaced on social media with a Muslim Cleric plainly stating that he cannot pray for late Nigerian actor, Murphy Afolabi’s soul.
It is Muslim belief to pray for the soul of the departed to earn him/her favour.
Murphy Afolabi who collapsed and died after a brief illness on Sunday morning, May 14 was well loved in and out of the Nollywood industry.
A Muslim cleric in the now viral video reacting to the late actor’s death and an alleged plea from people that he prays for the departed’s soul, said he can’t pray for Murphy despite being a Muslim.
The Cleric said although Murphy Afolabi was a Muslim, he played herbalist roles, carried sacrifices and used incantations which cannot be overlooked.
The Alfa added that despite the fact that the actor was simply playing a role, it is against his religion.
Reacting to his reason, actors like Yemi Solade, Yetunde Alabi, Funmi Awelewa, Folorunsho Adeola, OAP Do2dtun, amongst others knocked the Cleric for his beliefs.
Some others however stated that the Cleric took the right approach as it is forbidden in Islam.
