The Rivers State Police Command has arrested and detained a 37-year-old woman identified as Mariam Stephen, following allegations of multiple assaults on her son, Covenant.
The arrest came after a human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, received a complaint on his Facebook page and took immediate action.
According to Harrison Gwamnishu’s Instagram post last night, the human rights activist was notified about the distressing case of child abuse on Sunday evening, July 30. Acting promptly, the Rivers State Team led by Comrade Adebayo Steve swiftly apprehended Mariam Stephen in connection with the reported assaults on her child, Covenant.
He wrote;
‘’Today, responding on child abuse complaint posted on Facebook, this evening, our Rivers State Team led by Comrade Adebayo Steve swung into action and swiftly arrested 37-year-old Mariam Stephen for multiple assaults on her child named Convenant.
She is currently detained at the police station Special Area Rumukoro, Portharcourt and will be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed.
