Big Wiz might have lost his two Grammy Nominations, but there’s no shortage of his name on the Billboard music award list.
Wizkid’s Essence featuring Justin Bieber and Tems has been nominated for “Top R&B Song” at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards. It was nominated alongside Doja Cat & The Weeknd’s “You Right”, Giveon’s “Heartbreak Anniversary”, Justin Bieber ft. Daniel Caesar & Giveon’s “Peaches” and Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars, Anderson . Paak), “Leave The Door Open”.
With this nomination Essence made history as the first African Song To Be Nominated For Billboard Music Awards. This isn’t Wizkid’s first Billboard nomination, but his eighth career nomination. He extends his record as the most nominated and awarded (3) African artist.
The Billboard Music Awards show will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The NBC telecast will emanate from the Las Vegas emerald venue on May 15 at 8 p.m. ET, airing simultaneously on the west coast at 5 p.m. The show will also be streamed live on Peacock. No host has been announced yet.
