Emeka Chochoo, the former manager of Nollywood star John Okafor, commonly known as Mr Ibu, has revealed the grounds for Mr Ibu’s adopted daughter, Jasmine Chioma Okafor, and his two sons, Daniel and Val, being summoned by the police.
According to reports, the three was summoned for interrogation about the administration of cash donated by well-meaning Nigerians for Mr Ibu’s medical treatment.
On Wednesday night, actress Doris Ogala revealed that Jasmine and Mr Ibu’s sons were detained at Alagbon Police Station on suspicion of transferring a considerable money, estimated at N300 million, from the contribution account to her personal account.
The money was set aside for Mr Ibu’s medical bills, as the actor recently underwent surgery that resulted in the amputation of one of his legs.
When it was believed that Mr Ibu’s wife, Stella Maris Okafor, pushed the police participation, the situation erupted.
Stella Maris allegedly sought transparency and accountability regarding the donated funds and accused Jasmine of misusing the funds.
Stella Maris was also said to be planning on using the money to buy a new property.
“Mr. Ibu’s wife alleged that Jasmine moved N300 million out of the account. Ibu’s wife allegedly wanted them to buy her a new house from the money contributed so far for Ibu’s treatments. That’s why she arrested Jasmine,”Doris Ogala said.
In reaction to the unfolding events, Emeka Chochoo explained that the police summons was not an arrest and that the police had summoned Jasmine, Daniel, and Val to inquire about Mr Ibu’s statement.
Val, on the other hand, was supposedly left out of the matter because he had recently returned to the nation and was uninformed of what was going on.
“Yes, they were all invited by the police. I won’t call it arrest; the police invited them over Mr Ibu’s account. However, Val is left out as he knows nothing about what’s been happening. He just returned to the country,” Emeka Chochoo told punch.
“I have not been able to reach any of them,” the ex-manager added.
Given that Mr Ibu’s wife and adopted daughter had previously joined forces to beg for financial support from Nigerians, the dispute surrounding the management of the donated monies took an unexpected turn.
The request came after Mr. Ibu had surgery, and the actor’s health issues provoked an outpouring of generosity from well-wishers.
