The two first met at Dr. Wilfred Lai’s church in Mombasa. Emmy was performing at the church while Madubuko had been invited as a guest preacher.
At the time, the man of God was married. He was impressed by Kosgei’s performance and pronounced to Lai that whoever will marry her is blessed because she had a pure spirit. He wasn’t aware that she was a celebrity in the country.
He went back to Nigeria and tragedy struck his family a few months later when he lost his wife. He had no plans to remarry but God directed him to do so, according to him.
One day, his son approached him suggesting that he should consider re-marrying and Emmy his suggestion.
“He came and said that Kenyan girl that came to sing in church you should look for her. That was the first person that spoke marriage about Emmy to me. I didn’t know Emmy, I had nothing to do with her, we were not friends, I just brushed it,” Madubuko recounted.
Later, a girl from his church approached him with the same subject, suggesting he should marry the gospel singer.
At that moment, he began considering the suggestion but he wasn’t for it because Emmy was too young for him. He was however able to overcome the worry after receiving a word from God.
“One day I was there talking about age and God said to me I don’t give old women to kings. I bless kings with young girls, that solved the age problem,” he said.
He added that it was not easy for him to win her over.
How a man should treat a woman according to Madubuko
“Women are very special and women should be loved okay. You don’t bring in a woman to convert her to your cook or steward. I believe women should be looked after” the man of God said.
Madubuko added that one should be patient with a woman and give her time.
“You have to be able to talk about what she is wearing, when her face is not right(makeup) you know the details. When a woman knows her husband is interested in very minute details it changes a lot of things,” he explained.
