The 27-year-old is one of the favourites to claim the title at Flushing Meadows, having enjoyed a career-best 2022 and made his first grand slam final at Wimbledon, losing to Novak Djokovic, who won’t be in attendance due to the tournament requiring mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations.
Seeded 23rd after being unseeded at Wimbledon, the Aussie’s path to the final includes reigning US Open champion and world number one Daniil Medvedev, who he will meet should both make it to the fourth round.
What time is Nick Kyrgios playing?
Kyrgios will play Bonzi on Louis Armstrong Stadium, the secondary court in New York, in the early hours of Thursday morning (AEST).
While the start time, as for all tennis matches, is not set in stone, Kyrgios is slated to be the final match of the afternoon session, at a time no earlier than 3:30am (AEST).
Please note again that this is an earliest start time only, meaning the match could be pushed back depending on earlier results.
That means if you’re in South Australia or the Northern Territory, the Aussie is expected to start at 3am, while for Western Australians, it’s 1:30am.
How to watch Nick Kyrgios in the final
For the first time, Fox Sports and ESPN will not be showing the US Open – so a Foxtel or Kayo Sports subscription won’t allow you to tune into Kyrgios’ game.
The rights have been bought by Channel 9 and Stan Sport, who also own the rights to the three other grand slams.
Channel 9 will be broadcasting select matches throughout the tournament live and free on their second channel 9GEM (channel 92 in metro areas). It’s almost certain Kyrgios’ matches will feature prominently throughout the tournament, as they were at Wimbledon.
For other Australians matches such as Alex de Minaur or Ajla Tomljanovic, or if you’d prefer to watch the match on a live stream, you have two options: the free 9Now service or the paid subscription service Stan Sport, which is ad-free.
9Now will allow you to watch only matches broadcast on free-to-air TV live as they happen, while a Stan Sport subscription will enable you to watch any match of your choosing live throughout the US Open, with full replays and highlights packages also available.
For instance, if you want to watch Kyrgios play but don’t plan to burn the midnight oil, you can watch his match spoiler-free and at your choosing the next morning.
You can get a 7-day free trial with Stan Sport before you are charged a monthly minimum depending on which package you want.
