The Hammers decided to terminate Moyes’ contract following a disappointing season in the league and across all competitions. The Scot had failed to lead the London Club to achieve greatness after a series of bad results, also conceding 70 goals in the Premier League with two games until the end of the season.
Transfer news expert, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that West Ham and former Sevilla manager, Julen Lopetegui have reached an agreement ahead of next season. According to reports, both parties have reached an agreement with the final details already agreed.
Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim had been the second name on a two-man shortlist but his £12.8million release clause had become a major problem for the Premier League side. The Portuguese international has also confirmed that he will remain with Sporting and he was focused on helping them with trophies.
What happened to David Moyes?
The board at West Ham started looking for a replacement for Moyes after his side were thrashed 5-2 by Crystal Palace. The club have been a shadow of itself a year after he led the Hammers to win the UEFA Conference League which ended their 43-year wait for silverware.
What will Julen Lopetegui bring to West Ham?
Lopetegui was key in turning around the future of Wolves when he was appointed manager of the club in 2022. Wolves were in the relegation zone with 10 points when he was appointed as Bruno Lage’s replacement but eventually finished the season in 13th place.
During his time in Sevilla, he recorded a more successful points-per-match ratio and win percentage than Unai Emery did during his spell at the club between 2013-2016.
Lopetegui has a history of improving teams which is one of the reasons understood to be another factor that has attracted the Hammers.
