Viktor Gyokeres has been linked with a move to Manchester United in the past few transfer windows but they were unable to bring him over to the club.
Ruben Amorim spent four years at Sporting Lisbon and was key in helping develop Gyokeres into one of the best strikers in the world during that time, though he has now departed for United.
The Portuguese is getting ready for his first game in charge of the club against Ipswich Town.
Gyokeres who has scored 23 goals in 18 games for Sporting this season might be looking to join his former boss at Old Trafford. However, the player has confirmed that he will not leave Sporting Lisbon this season.
What did Viktor Gyokeres say about his future?
I want to finish this season at Sporting. I love it here. We will see [about a new club] when the time comes. I want to play, that’s crucial, and there will be also other factors.
He also spoke on Amorim’s decision to leave Sporting.
“It is very sad that he’s leaving, but of course we understand his decision. He has of course meant a lot [to me] considering that he gave me that chance and that he made me develop so much. Now we look forward to working with the new coach.”
