  • President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency and suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other officials.
  • VDM expressed his concerns about these developments on social media.

Social media critic Martins Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), has joined the growing list of prominent voices commenting on the recent political turmoil in Rivers State. Following President Bola Tinubu’s decision to declare a state of emergency and suspend Governor Siminalayi Fubara along with other state officials, VDM took to social media to express his concerns.

Notably, public figures such as rapper Falz and actress Hilda Dokubo have also voiced their opinions on Tinubu’s move.

On Tuesday, March 18, President Tinubu, in a nationwide address, announced the emergency declaration in response to the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State. As part of this decision, Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the entire House of Assembly were suspended for six months. To oversee the state’s affairs during this period, Tinubu appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas as the administrator.

In a video shared online, VDM raised questions about the extent of Tinubu’s control, suggesting that former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, holds significant influence over the president. Accompanying his remarks were pictures of Wike alongside Ibokette Ibas, fueling speculation that Wike played a role in the selection of the new state administrator.

“Who is truly running Nigeria? Why does Nyesom Wike always get what he wants? How can they suspend a sitting governor for six months and force him out of office?” VDM questioned.

Furthermore, VDM criticized Governor Fubara for challenging Wike without a solid strategy in place. He also speculated that Wike’s strong alliance with Tinubu could be part of a larger political agenda, hinting at a possible presidential ambition for Wike in 2032.
