- Tiv people of Benue state had slammed her with N10BN over her statement regarding Tiv culture
- Coming out of the house, Venita Akpofure apologises for her utterances during the reality show
Venita Akpofure, a former Big Brother Naija All Stars contestant who was just evicted has apologized to the Tiv people for her divisive remarks regarding their way of life.
Recall that Venita caused a stir when she claimed on the reality show that Tiv men gave their wives to guests as entertainment.
Venita had been threatened with legal action by the leading Tiv sociocultural organization, Mdzough U Tiv, Lagos State Branch, and Hon. Dickson Tarkighir, who represents Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency in Benue State in the House of Representatives.
The mother of two expressed regret for her “careless” comment in a post-eviction interview with media personality Hero Daniels, particularly because both of her girls are Tiv.
She said, “The statement I made about Tiv people got twisted a bit. My daughters are actually Tiv. There’s no way I will be trying to make any kind of malicious or slanderous comment towards their people. Actually, in my season we did a whole play around the Tor Tiv coronation which I participated in and was super excited about.
“So, you know, sometimes you will say something maybe it is a little bit carelessly. And I think it got really misconstrued. And for those that are offended by it, I’m regretful about that.”
During the ninth week of the reality show, Venita was evicted, alongside Soma and Angel
Among the bottom three housemates, Venita had the lowest number of votes, followed by Soma, and Angel who sat at the top.
Pere and Adekunle however joined the likes of Cee-C, Mercy, Cross, and Ilebaye to secure a vital place in the grand finale scheduled to take place on Sunday, 1st October.
