Ukraine exit as Belgium book last-16 spot against France

Belgium booked their place in the round of 16 at Euro 2024 with a goalless draw against eliminated Ukraine on Wednesday.

This result sees Roberto Martinez’s side advance to face France, while Ukraine exits the tournament following the final Group E match.

Ukraine made history as the first team in Euros history to be eliminated with 4 points in the group stage.

Romania topped the group after a 1-1 draw with Slovakia.

All teams in the group finished with four points, but Romania edged out Belgium on goals scored, leaving Belgium in second place.

Slovakia progressed as one of the four best third-place finishers, edging Ukraine on goal difference as well.

While Belgium dominated possession in the encounter, Ukraine, led by Serhiy Rebrov, had more attempts on goal in the first half.

However, both teams failed to find the net in the second period, resulting in a stalemate that secured Belgium’s advancement.
