Napoli endured a dismal start to 2024 as they suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat against Torino on Sunday’s Serie A clash.
The Partenopei’s woes continued, after ending 2023 with disappointing results and an early exit from the Coppa Italia.
With key players like Victor Osimhen and Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa away at the Africa Cup of Nations and several others injured or suspended, Napoli faced a depleted squad against Torino.
The match started with Torino’s goalkeeper, Pierluigi Gollini, making an early save from a Duvan Zapata strike, but it was Torino who took the lead just before halftime through Antonio Sanabria’s clinical finish.
Napoli’s hopes were further dashed in the second half when Pasquale Mazzocchi, making his debut for the club, was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge.
Torino then capitalized on their numerical advantage, with Ivan Ilic and Nikola Vlasic adding to the scoreline.
Despite efforts from Napoli to stage a comeback, Torino’s defense held firm, and the match ended in a disappointing defeat for the visitors.
