Despite their recent skid, the New York Yankees have been one of the best teams in baseball all year long.

At 71-40, they still own the best record in the American League, together with the Houston Astros.

The Yanks, however, have had to manage their way through several impactful injuries in their journey this year.

Most of them have been of the long-term variety and have forced them to alter their plans in many cases.

#Yankees injured list: – Michael King (elbow)* – Luis Severino (lat) – Giancarlo Stanton (Achilles) – Matt Carpenter (foot) – Chad Green (TJ)* – Luis Gil (TJ)* – Zack Britton (TJ) – Harrison Bader (foot) – Miguel Castro (shoulder – Stephen Ridings (shoulder) * out for the year,” SI.com’s Max Goodman tweeted.

Green and King are two of the best relief arms on the Yankees, and losing them forced the team to go to the market and bring in Scott Effross and Lou Trivino.

Zack Britton, a veteran who has been in the American League’s elite for nearly a decade, is expected back at some point in September, but no one knows if he will be healthy or good enough to help.

This week, the Yankees suffered another crushing loss, this time in the position player department: Matt Carpenter (.305/.412/.727 with 15 home runs) has a foot injury and will be out for weeks.

Slugger Giancarlo Stanton (24 home runs) should be back soon to contribute his usual power, while trade deadline acquisition Harrison Bader could be back in September.

All things considered, the Yankees have been hit hard by injuries this year, but they have been able to overcome those issues for the most part.

They have lost seven of their last ten games, though, so their depth is still being tested.
