Chelsea legend, Chris Sutton, has described Manchester United’s interest in Bologna striker, Marko Arnautovic as madness.
Sutton claimed that if Arnautovic eventually joined Man United, he would put manager Erik ten Hag under pressure.
Arnautovic is said to be considering a transfer request to secure a move to Man United this summer.
Shocking reports emerged linking the 33-year-old veteran attacker with a £7.5million switch to Old Trafford.
Bologna is said to have rejected the first offer made by Manchester United, but Arnautovic’s agent Danijel Arnautovic is hopeful an agreement can be reached.
Speaking to the BBC, Sutton said Man United’s pursuit of the Austria international has been ‘damaging’.
“That’s madness, thinking about signing [Arnautovic],” Sutton said. “I thought it was a spoof, it’s ridiculous.
“It’s a real wrong move in terms of the eyes of the supporters. There are a million other players out there United should have been linked with. I don’t get that.
‘It’s an absolute PR disaster. If Arnautovic comes in, that’s going to put Ten Hag under so much pressure.”
Arnautovic has played for Stoke City and West Ham United in the past.
