Suspected thief beaten and tied up in Calabar

A young man identified as Thankgod, hailing from Ekori community in Calabar, Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River state, was subjected to severe beating, restraint, and tied up by an enraged mob after being accused of theft.

The incident unfolded in the Army estate area, 8 miles from Calabar on Thursday, August 17, 2023.

According to eyewitness reports shared by a Facebook user, Sly Silva, the unfortunate ordeal transpired when Thankgod was allegedly caught stealing.

He is said to have initially made off with a generator set, raising the ire of the local community. However, his alleged thieving spree did not end there.

Silva recounted that Thankgod brazenly returned to the Army estate vicinity and purportedly stole a water meter, testing the patience of the already incensed residents.

Unfortunately for Thankgod, his second attempt at theft proved to be his undoing, as he was promptly apprehended by an enraged mob.

The mob’s anger was palpable as they took the law into their own hands, meting out a brutal beating to Thankgod.

The assailants reportedly bound him with a rope, leaving him incapacitated and at their mercy. Disturbing images circulating on social media platforms depict a grim scene, with Thankgod visibly injured and restrained.
