Southampton are relegated from the Premier League

Southampton Football club have been relegated from the 2024/25 Premier League after setting one of the worst records in the history of the competition.

The Saints relegation was confirmed after they were defeated 3-1 by Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Sunday, April 6, 2025. Southampton also wrote their names on the wrong side of the history books by becoming the first team to be relegated with seven games left to play in the season.

The previous record was initially held by Derby County who were relegated from the Premier League with six games to the end of the season in 2008. The defeat against Spurs leaves Southampton with just 10 points from 31 matches, which has been the reason why they are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.

However, Southampton supporters will be hoping that despite the confirmation of their relegation the team can get more points as they look to avoid being the worse team in the Premier League history with the least number of points in a season.
