In a recent appearance on Teju Babyface‘s podcast, Baba Dee discussed several topics, including an opportunity he missed to sign Wizkid when the latter was still an up-and-coming talent.
He revealed that prior to Banky W signing Wizkid, his late brother Sound Sultan had recommended including him in their Naija Ninjas roster, but Baba Dee was overly confident and missed the chance.
Reflecting on Wizkid’s character, Baba Dee noted that Wizkid has always been a peaceful and focused individual with a clear vision.
Cryptic note of Sound Sultan to Baba Dee six months before his death
The veteran artist discussed his brother’s passing and the illness that claimed his life. He mentioned that six months before Sound Sultan’s death, they were aware he was living on borrowed time, despite receiving treatment at a renowned non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma facility.
“This is the first time I am actually talking about this. He died in one of the best hospitals. He told me way back and was like ‘Dee, the doctor said I don’t have time’. That was the first time I was hearing that kind of thing. He was okay, we were recording and he just flipped it on me like that. I couldn’t do anything again,” he stated.
