Coming after Nigerian artists; Wizkid, Femi and Made Kuti’s big losses at the 64th Grammy Awards, Nigerians have taken to social media to react.
While some netizens mocked Wizkid over his loss, other sympathized with the “Made in Lagos” crooner as they screamed “Ojoro”.
NaijaLoaded recalls that last year, acclaimed African Giant, Burna Boy bagged the award for Best Global Music Album, While Wizkid bagged one for his collaboration with the legendary Beyoncé on Brown Skin Girl.
Recall that Wizkid’s fans took to social media to mock his perceived rival, Davido, for not being nominated in any category, despite releasing an album.
While we celebrate the nominations and wins of Africans in the award, should we as Nigerians (and Africans) care about the Grammy Awards since we ae not even getting nominations in major categories?
Indigenous Africans who make music in Africa get nominated in two minor categories alone (Best Global Music Performance and Best Global Music Album), unless of course we are featured by foreign artists in their songs. We get snubbed in other major categories and the award presentations of our categories aren’t done on the Gammy awards main stage.
The question now is,
Should we Care About Grammy Awards’ Validation For The Afrobeats Genre?
Let’s hear from you all as regards this.
