A leaked screenshot of a WhatsApp chat reveals a disturbing message sent by the alleged killer, John Matara, to the owner of the Airbnb where the horrific incident took place. The exchange sheds light on the harrowing moments that unfolded inside the South B apartment.
On January 4, the 34-year-old Matara and Starlet Wahu checked into an Airbnb at Papino Apartment, as captured by a CCTV camera. However, their date took a dark turn, leading to a devastating outcome.
Authorities became suspicious when CCTV footage showed Matara leaving the apartment alone. This triggered an immediate investigation into the events that transpired. Eventually, Matara was located at Mbagathi Hospital, where he was receiving treatment.
According to the police report, Matara is accused of fatally stabbing Starlet Wahu in the head and thigh, leaving her lifeless body found in a pool of blood on the apartment floor.
A leaked WhatsApp chat has revealed a desperate plea from Matara to the Airbnb owner.
In the messages, he confesses to having a heated argument with “his girlfriend” and admits to locking her inside the house before abruptly leaving. Matara instructs the owner to take the keys from a security guard.
Matara’s message reads: “Sht happened. I left the house in panic and I locked my girlfriend inside. She is not in good condition. It is quite disturbing. The key is with the watchman. I could not see the caretaker. I am far away now. It was a heated argument, and I did some sht. She is in the bedroom. The earlier you get there, the better. The later you get there, the worse. You won’t hear from me for some hours. I need recuperation. I am so sorry about it. Please say no word for now. You have no idea how much we have fought all night. But no property is damaged. Thanks for everything.”
Starlet Wahu’s brother, Pastor Victor Kanyari, disclosed that she tragically succumbed to her injuries while attempting to save herself at the Airbnb. The chilling WhatsApp messages now stand as haunting evidence of the sequence of events leading up to her untimely death.
