Switzerland’s 3-1 win over Hungary at Euro 2024 reveals the effectiveness of semi-automated offside technology, soon to be implemented in the Premier League.
The match saw Switzerland take the lead when Kwadwo Duah scored, only for the goal to be initially ruled offside.
Replays indicated Duah might have been offside, but the semi-automated system quickly reviewed the incident.
The on-field referee then overturned the decision, awarding the goal, and showing the technology’s speed and accuracy.
This system, praised for its efficiency, will be adopted in the Premier League next season.
After Duah’s opener, Michel Aebischer extended Switzerland’s lead just before halftime.
Hungary’s Barnabás Varga managed to score in the second half, but Breel Embolo sealed the 3-1 victory for Switzerland with a late goal.
