Actor and comedian Russell Brand has spoken out after facing charges related to rape, indecent assault, oral rape, and sexual assault involving four women.
Brand, 49, strongly denies the accusations, asserting that he has “never been a rapist.”
In a video posted on X on Friday afternoon, Brand expressed gratitude for the support he has received and declared his intention to challenge the allegations in court.
Reflecting on his past, Brand admitted to struggles with addiction and poor decision-making but emphasized that he has never engaged in non-consensual actions. “I was a fool before I found guidance and light in the Lord,” he said. “I was a drug addict, a sex addict, and an imbecile. But I have never been a rapist. I have never participated in non-consensual activity — I pray that you can see that by looking in my eyes.”
The charges against Brand were filed by the Metropolitan Police, with one count each of rape, indecent assault, and oral rape, as well as two counts of sexual assault. The allegations involve incidents dating back to between 1999 and 2005, according to the authorities.
Russell Brand is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on May 2 to face the charges.
