Portuguese football legend, Cristiano Ronaldo has sent out a message to his fans after helping Al-Nassr initiate a comeback against Al-Hilal, making them winners of Arab Club Champions Cup.
Al-Hilal took the lead in the final played at the King Fahd Stadium on Saturday evening. Brazilian footballer, Michael headed home from close range in the 53rd minute and decided to mock Ronaldo by performing his infamous ‘Siu’ celebration.
Al-Nassr responded well but were handed a major blow when Abdulelah Al-Amri was shown a red card in the 71st minute. That did not stop them from getting back into the game when Ronaldo struck his first of the night, tapping home after some excellent build-up play.
And despite going to nine-men for another red card, this time to Nawaf Boushal, Al-Nassr went in front for the first time in the game through Ronaldo. Seko Fofana’s effort hit the bar, but the 38-year-old was there to head into the back of the net in the eighth minute of extra-time.
The drama did not stop there as Al-Hilal were awarded a penalty midway through extra-time. But VAR correctly overruled the decision as tempers flared. Ronaldo ended up leaving the field injured after being on the receiving end of two crunching tackles from ex-Chelsea man Kalidou Koulibaly.
With the two goals Ronaldo scored, Al-Nassr was able to defeat Al-Hilal to win the Arab Champions Club Cup.
The Portuguese footballer has now shared a photo of him with the trophy, thanking fans for supporting the club in their victory.
He wrote;
“Extremely proud to helped the team winning this important trophy for the 1st time!
Thank you to everyone in the club that was involved in this great achievement and to my familly and friends for always being by my side! Fantastic support by our fans!This also belongs to you!”
