Brazil legend Ronaldinho has claimed Gabriel Jesus will repay the ‘love’ he has had at Arsenal by becoming one of the best players in Europe.
Jesus scored 95 goals in 236 appearances for City, winning eight major trophies in the process, but was often rotated in and out of the side.
Since moving to Arsenal, the 25-year-old has demonstrated impressive form as a regular starter and had a direct hand in all four goals the Gunners scored against Leicester last weekend.
Ronaldinho has been a fan of Jesus since the player made the switch to English football from Brazilian club Palmeiras as a teenager. But he has suggested the player didn’t get the opportunity to show his best in Manchester and will now do it for Arsenal instead.
“When Gabriel joined Manchester City, I said he would go on to be one of the best players in the world,” Ronaldinho began, via the Mirror.
“When he was given a chance, he showed what he was capable of – but at Manchester City he was never shown the love a player of his quality deserves.
“At Arsenal he has been given the chance to be the focal point, he has been shown the love by the coach and the fans, and already he is repaying that.
“This season I expect big things from him – he will repay the love shown in him by showing he is not just one of the best players in the Premier League but also in Europe.”
