Manchester City star Rodri Hernandez made history on Monday night, becoming the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner.
The Spanish midfielder edged out favoured Real Madrid duo Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham to the prestigious award.
His role going 74 consecutive games unbeaten, helped City win the Premier League last season.
His brilliance also inspired Spain to win the Euro 2024, beating England in the final.
He played six out of seven games for the Spanish team in the competition.
In consolation, Real Madrid were named the Men’s Club of the Year, and Carlo Ancelotti, Best Male Manager of the Year.
However, no one from the club showed up at the ceremony as they all support Vinicius who refused to attend after learning he won’t win the best player award.
In the same event, Argentina goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez was named the 2024 Yachine Trophy Winner.
Meanwhile, Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmati was named the female Best Player for the second time in a row.
