This game was Orsato’s final time officiating a Champions League fixture before he heads to Euro 2024, which kicks off on Friday, June 14, 2024. The Italian referee, who has been officiating in Serie A, has decided to retire at the end of the tournament, which will be hosted in Germany.
Orsato is an acclaimed referee known for his spot-on decisions and was named the best referee by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) in 2020.
He also officiated the opening match of the 2022 World Cup between tournament hosts Qatar and Ecuador, as well as the semi-final match between Argentina and Croatia.
