Rangers part ways with Michael Beale following poor performances

Scottish Premiership side Rangers Football Club have sacked its manager Michael Beale following their poor start to the season.

Calls for Beale’s dismissal escalated after Rangers’ 3-1 home defeat to Aberdeen, which left their supporters furious, with the team trailing seven points behind league leaders Celtic.

In an official statement, Rangers said, “Results this season have fallen short of what everyone connected to Rangers would expect. Therefore, the decision was reached today to terminate the contract of the manager, as well as the contracts of coaches Neil Banfield, Damian Matthew, Harry Watling, and Jack Ade.”

To take over as the interim manager for the team is current Rangers midfielder Steven Davis, and will be assisted by former Rangers player Alex Rae. Other lines of coaching staff are Steven Smith, Brian Gilmour, and goalkeeping coach Colin Stewart.

Rangers Chairman John Bennett expressed gratitude for Beale’s dedication during his time with the club while wishing the interim team success.

“The search process for the new manager is already underway. I wish Steven Davis and the interim management team every success – they will remain in charge for as long as it takes to make the right appointment.”

Beale’s departure comes just over ten months after his return to Rangers. He had previously served as an assistant coach when Steven Gerrard was in charge and left QPR for the Rangers job in November 2022.

His decision to join Rangers had come after turning down the opportunity to become Wolves boss, citing loyalty and integrity as his reasons for staying with the Championship club.
