The FCT Police Command has detained a pregnant lady who pretended to be kidnapped and forced her husband to pay a ransom of N2 million for her release, which she divided with her lover.
However, the police intervened and launched an inquiry when the husband reported the incident, which eventually revealed that the wife organized the kidnapping with her boyfriend. She pocketed N1.2 million of the ransom, while the boyfriend received N800,000.
Benneth Igweh, the FCT’s police commissioner, confirmed this in a tweet and video posted on Wednesday, March 20.
The police chief stated that the cash of N793,500 was later recovered from them after the arrest.
The husband, Chiedozie Ubah, who resides in Saburi II, Dei-dei, Abuja, reported the incidence to the Gwagwa police division, stating that his wife, Rosemary Ubah, left the home for anti-natal treatment at the hospital on the same day.
Chiedozie placed the funds into his wife’s account as requested by the voice on the other line and took his wife to the police station when she was freed.
He then received a call reporting his wife’s kidnapping via her phone number, and the voice on the other end demanded a N2 million ransom before her release.
