Police arrests lawmaker, Alex Ikwechegh for assaulting cab driver

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command announced on Monday that it has arrested lawmaker Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, who is under investigation for allegedly assaulting a cab driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, in Abuja.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, Ikwechegh is currently being questioned at the Maitama Police Station following Abuwatseya’s complaint.

Initial findings indicate that the incident occurred during a delivery to Ikwechegh, where a disagreement reportedly led to a physical altercation.

Ikwechegh allegedly responded to the driver’s attempt to involve law enforcement by dismissively stating, “You can go ahead and call the Inspector General of Police,” an attitude the police said reflects a concerning disregard for the authority of law enforcement.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered a comprehensive investigation, emphasizing that the Command is dedicated to an impartial inquiry and that appropriate legal actions will follow based on the findings.
