Manchester United’s Old Trafford could be increased to 90,000 capacity, if Sir Jim Ratcliffe succeeds with his 25% acquisition bid.
Ineos, the conglomerate led by Ratcliffe, is reportedly considering a major expansion for Old Trafford.
Negotiations have been on between Ratcliffe and the club’s current owners, the Glazer family, with the club’s upgrade being a major talking point, according to The Times
The proposed expansion would see Old Trafford have similar features with Wembley Stadium. Meanwhile, the outcome of Ratcliffe’s bid, which amounts to £1.3 billion, is expected to be determined on Thursday.
Recall that Sheikh Jassim recently withdrew his bid for full control of the club, clearing the way for Ratcliffe to pursue a minority stake in Manchester United.
As part of his arrangement, Ineos is set to assume control of the football aspect of the business from the Glazers.
But no decision has been made yet, until the Manchester United board meet on Thursday to discuss on the matter.
However, concerns continue to mount among United supporters about the Glazers retaining a majority share and continuing their influence over the club.
The Manchester United Supporters’ Trust has also emphasized the need for clarity in the ongoing discussions and urged all parties to prioritize the club’s interests.
