Olamide and Don Jazzy are not just music industry execs, but the industry couldn’t run without them.
For ten years, Olamide has used his record label to push new artists to the limelight.
More than a few times has made previously unknown guys into stars from the scratch. At some point, YBNL was so loaded he had to do an offload in 2018.
Don Jazzy, on the other hand, has been at it longer than Olamide. Since the late 2000s, when Mo’hits records was at its peak, Don Jazzy has always been involved in scouting new talents and introducing them to the world.
Under his leadership, Mavin Records has grown into one of the most structured imprints in the country.
The two of them, however you decide to look at it, have eyes for talents and that’s the open secret to both their successes.
Olamide was responsible for discovering and pushing such artists as Lil Kesh, Adekunle Gold, Chinko Ekun, Davolee, Lyta, Temmie Ovwasa, Fireboy, and now Asake. It’s safe to say his ten-year career as a music business exec has been a huge success.
We have Don Jazzy to thank for such artists as Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, Di’ja, Ayra Starr, Ladipoe, and Johnny Drille.
The question now is, which of them is the better scout? Which of them do you see having the best artists ten years from now? Personally, I’d bet on Olamide, but let’s hear what you think?
