NYCFC claim former Inter Miami winger Matias Pellegrini via waivers

New York City FC have claimed Argentine winger Matias Pellegrini off the MLS waivers list, the club announced Friday.

Pellegrini has signed a contract with the reigning MLS Cup champions through the remainder of the 2022 MLS season and be available for next weekend’s trip to Orlando City.

Yael Averbuch West hosted none other than Christian Fuchs for the latest episode of Football Americana. The Charlotte FC captain provided insight into the creation of Major League Soccer’s newest expansion team, and bringing European culture into the American side.

The 22-year-old was under contract with Inter Miami but had been on loan at Estudiantes – the club Miami signed him from – in his homeland since August 2021 as Inter Miami had to make room on their roster following the controversial signing of Blaise Matuidi.

Pellegrini played 20 times for Inter Miami, scoring once and providing two assists. During his recent loan spell with Estudiantes, he made 42 appearances across all competitions – including nine in the Copa Libertadores – scoring four goals.

At international level, Pellegrini has been called into U-17 and U-20 camps, though he is yet to be capped.

Pellegrini joins an NYCFC side sitting third in the Eastern Conference, but enduring a four-game winless run, including defeats in each of their last three matches.
