NJ/NY Gotham appoint Hue Menzies as interim head coach

NJ/NY Gotham FC has appointed Hue Menzies as interim manager, just two days after parting ways with head coach Scott Parkinson. 

Menzies will lead the NWSL side for the rest of the 2022 campaign. 

He joins with plenty of experience, most prominently helping Jamaica qualify for the 2019 World Cup for the first time in history to earn the 2018 Concacaf Women’s Coach of the Year title. 

“Hue is a soccer lifer and a true professional with a track record of success when it comes to building programs and developing players. I’m confident Hue will help our players reach their potential this season while we continue our coaching search,” said Gotham FC GM Yael Averbuch West in a team press release.

Menzies also previously worked as an assistant at the University of Texas, co-founded the Lonestar Soccer Association in Austin, and holds a USSF A license.

“I want to thank Yael and ownership for giving me the opportunity to work with such gifted athletes,” added Menzies. “This is an incredibly committed team and there’s still time left in the season to turn things around. I’m excited to get to know these players and help aid their progress anyway I can.”

Menzies is the second Black head coach, interim or otherwise, in league history, joining Orlando Pride interim manager Seb Hines on the list.

He takes over as Gotham sits in 11th place on the NWSL table with just 12 points in 12 games and a record of 4W-8L-0D. Menzies will lead the team in his first match as interim manager on Sunday when visiting OL Reign at Lumen Field.
