Nigerians have taken to social media to react to Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele’s comment of Cryptocurrency being used to describe the activities of traders in an electronic dark world.
The CBN Governor who appeared before a joint senate committee on banking, insurance and other financial institutions; ICT and cybercrime; and capital market to explain why the apex bank banned cryptocurrency transactions in the country, had claimed “Cryptocurrency is not legitimate money” because it is not created or backed by any Central Bank.
Emefiele also said the ban decision was taken in the interest of every well meaning Nigerian, who have nothing to hide and is happy to have traceable and transparent dealings in our financial system.
Reacting to this, some Nigerians said the CBN Governor gave an “unintelligent reason” for the ban.
