The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, today, Monday have stormed Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, defying the rain and the Lagos Police’s threat to protest against the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike.
The students held banners bearing inscriptions such as, “No nation can develop without genuine commitment to education,” and “If you have money for election form, you can fund education.”
They caused traffic around the airport amid the presence of a combined team of officers the Lagos State Police Command, Rapid Response Squad, Lagos Airport Police Command, and other security agencies.
Recall that the students’ body had earlier threatened to ground activities at the local and international airports across the country beginning Monday due to the strike.
Chairman, NANS National Task Force on ‘End ASUU Strike Now,’ Ojo Raymond Olumide, said students were tired of pleading with both parties to end the strike.

“Nigerian students whose parents created the commonwealth cannot continue suffering at home alongside our lecturers while the few who gain from our sweat and blood have their kids abroad.
“We call on students to rise and join us as we take our destinies into our hands. Our demands remain consistently clear and simple,” he said.
Recall that the Lagos Police, through its PRO, benjamin Hundeyin, has sounded a warning against the students’ protest in the airport environs.
