A Nigerian lawyer has taken to Twitter to share his experience from a recent outing at a Court of Appeal.
According to the Nigerian lawyer, @Egi_Nupe_, he was shocked to see his female colleague kneel to apologize to her boss for coming late to court.
He revealed that the lawyer’s boss who is a female Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), spoke to her in a very scornful manner in the open court for not writing her name on the bar list.
The Twitter user further revealed that after the SAN realized that the court wasn’t going to sit, she started calling out to the lawyer to carry her bag.
He added that many lawyers are being humiliated by their bosses and the Nigerian Bar Association should be addressing these issues.
@Egi_Nupe_ tweeted;
“At the Court of Appeal today, I saw a lawyer (lady) kneeling to apologize to her boss for coming late to Court. The boss is an SAN and a woman. She spoke to the lady in a very scornful manner in the open Court for not writing her name on the Bar list.
“When she realized Court wasn’t going to sit, she stood up saying: Where is this girl? Won’t you come and carry the bag or I should carry it myself? While speaking angrily. Then I wondered what she might be going through in the office, if she could be treated that way publicly.
“There are so many young lawyers going through these humiliations under their bosses. These are the issues NBA should be seen addressing aggressively. How are that are lawyers oppressed able to represent their oppressed clients?”
