A Nigerian lady was arrested by customs officials at the Indian Airport (Delhi International Airport) on Tuesday, February 1, 2024, for allegedly smuggling cocaine worth ₹82 crore (N75 million) into the country.
The arrest was made after the young woman arrived from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
According to an official statement released on Thursday, February 1, 2024, the suspect was intercepted and subjected to a thorough baggage search.
During the examination, officials discovered a hidden substance inside two blue-colored trolley bags carried by the passenger.
Further inspection revealed a total of 5.8 kg of a white powdery substance suspected to be narcotics.
The statement highlighted that upon subjecting the substance to a diagnostic test, it prima facie appeared to contain a commercial quantity of cocaine.
The international value of the seized narcotics is estimated to be ₹82.446 crore.
In response to the discovery, the customs officials promptly arrested the passenger, and the confiscated narcotics were seized.
